The Metropolitan Police have admitted mistakenly saying a motorcyclist had died after a serious crash in Morden Park.

The 20-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital in a critical condition after his Kawasaki motorbike crashed with a red Citroen C3 on Sunday, November 6.

November 7: Witness appeal as motorcyclist fights for life after crash in Morden Park

The driver of the Citroen stopped at the scene and has not been arrested.

However, a police board appealing for witnesses set up near the site of the crash in Epsom Road, near to the junction with Lower Morden Lane, described the crash as "fatal".

Although the current condition of the motorcyclist is not known, police have confirmed that he survived the crash.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "An appeal board apealing for information and witnesses was positioned in Epsom Road, Morden, following a serious road traffic collision.

"The board incorrectly stated the collision was fatal.

"The incorrect board was removed and amended as quickly as possible."

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton are still investigating the crash. Any witnesses, or anyone with information, can contact them by calling 101.
