A £120,000 pelican crossing will finally be installed on Tolworth’s Greenway two years after the plans first surfaced.
Councillors unanimously voted to approve plans to build the crossing at a residents committee meeting at the Guildhall on Thursday night.
Residents were first asked about the plans in a consultation in autumn 2014, and highlighted the need to build a public crossing.
Tolworth councillor Richard Hudson told this website the plans would cost about £120,000 two months ago.
Cllr Phil Doyle, who is on the committee, said: “People clapped when the meeting finished.
“It’s a Transport for London road. It does sometimes take a little while for people to agree where the best place is. It has to be somewhere safe. “It’s quite a busy bit of road.”
The building of a pelican crossing was recommended by the south of the borough neighbourhood committee in September.
The plans are now subject to final approval by Transport for London, with Kingston Council hoping to install the crossing within the financial year.
