A WOMAN who had tried to conceive for nine years gave birth to her “miracle baby” after going into labour in Costa Coffee in Kingston.

Zuzana Obert, 40, and her husband Boris, 36, of Villiers Way, met nine years ago in Kingston and got married in Slovakia seven years ago.

It was only until the pair laid a pregnancy test under their Christmas tree in December that Mrs Obert discovered she was finally pregnant.

Two weeks before their daughter was meant to be born, the couple and Mrs Obert’s sister were in Costa Coffee in the Bentall Centre when her waters suddenly broke.

She said: “When we finished our coffee and cake I suddenly felt something that wasn’t ok. I’d been drinking a de-caf iced coffee and drank it so quickly I thought it was just that.

“But when I stood up all the water fell out and I was rushing to the loo. It was coming down and there was a waitress who helped us.

“There was a big queue for the loo and the waitress gave me a chair and asked if we wanted to call anyone.”

Mrs Obert’s sister and husband rushed to the Mothercare store, also in the Bentall Centre, to get some clean clothes as the water “rushed out” of her.

The trio were then taken to Kingston hospital, where Mrs Obert gave birth to daughter Viktoria Anna, who was born with Down’s Syndrome, by c-section at 9.56am the next day on July 31.

She said: “We knew it before she was born. She’s really nice and lovely and a beautiful girl. She’s doing very well, really good.”

One week after Viktoria was born, the family went back to Costa to thank the staff for their help.

Viktoria’s birth came shortly before both her parents’ birthdays and was described by them as the “best present”.

Mrs Obert said: “Viktoria was the best present I’ve ever had in my life. We received the news we were having her at Christmas time too. She was our present.

“It’s really precious after so many years to have a baby. When we were trying we gave up. We just thought if it’s possible it would happen. She’s our miracle Costa baby.”

A Costa spokeswoman said: “It all happened very fast. We all helped as much as we could and then they were off to the hospital.

“It was a very special day that we won’t forget and all of us at the store wish Zuzana and baby Viktoria Anna all the very best.”
