Voting is now open for Surbiton community group Seething Wells to win £25,000 in the first ever Britain Has Spirit awards.

The group, which is responsible for quirky events such as Surbiton Ski Sunday and the Seething Sardine festival, is competing against nine others from across the UK for the prize.

Seething Wells has been put forward for the national gong after winning the regional final this summer, for which the group won £1,000 for a street party.

The awards were launched by TV journalist Gabby Logan and Together Mutual Insurance in response to research claiming nearly half of Britons did not feel they were part of a "neighbourly community".

Gabby Logan said: "The public have a very important job to do. Britain has some incredible volunteer groups and standout individuals, all of whom are worthy winners.

However there can only be one winner per category – so it’s incredibly important you vote for your favourite. Think of the difference £25,000 could make to a small or modest community project.”
