LESS than 60 per cent of women aged 25 to 29 in Kingston attended their cervical screening appointments last year.

Recent figures from Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, set up by London businessman James Maxwell in memory of his wife Jo, showed only 55.7 per cent of the women went to their arranged screenings.

MP James Berry, who met with the trust on Wednesday, said: “While it’s good news that Kingston is overall above the London average for attendance at cervical screening appointments, it is concerning that the number of women aged 25 to 29 attending screenings is well below the national average.”

Robert Music, chief executive of the trust, said: “It’s a five-minute test that could save your life.”
