Children from Lime Tree School helped Surbiton Wildlife Group put in a hedgehog house in the grounds behind their school last week.

A group of young wildlife enthusiasts joined the carpenter who made the hedgehog house, Gary Gautier, to install the home on Thursday, April 14, and go on a tour of the woods in which a badger was spotted a few weeks ago behind Surbiton station.

Tom Hooker, chairman of Surbiton Wildlife Group, visited the Surbiton school to help set up the house and camera to capture the movements of the animals which could live there.

He said: "On Thursday we had a visit from People's Trust for Endangered Species' hedgehog officer Henry Johnson.

"Henry led us and a group of pupils from Lime Tree Primary School around 'The Wood' and suggested how it may be improved for hedgehogs and other wildlife.

"We also donated a hedgehog house to Lime Tree which is now waiting for a guest in the school's wildlife area."
