The attack is the second time PC Christie has been assaulted on duty after he was left on crutches when a man hit him with his car in June last year.

He was paid just £20 compensation.

A Kingston police spokesman said: “The suspect began to violently fight PC Christie, while they were both on the floor.

"He was doing anything he could to try and escape. During the fight PC Christie’s head slammed into the pavement.

“This nearly knocked out PC Christie and he was left dazed and confused, lying on the pavement.

"He was left concussed, confused and he wasn’t making any sense to his colleagues. He was rushed to Kingston Hospital and treated for his injuries."
