The date for the meeting to discuss the controversial Tolworth Tower development has been set.

A development control committee meeting, including the proposal, was scheduled in early December but postponed and the new provisional date is January 12.

Councillor Ian George said: "This is no ordinary application. It is very big and will have a major effect on the residents of Tolworth, and those who have to drive through it, for decades to come.

"The Alexandra ward councillors will be working through the Christmas period in order to get notifications out to as many people as possible early in the New Year.

"The redevelopment of the Tolworth Tower site, if done right, has the potential to bring benefits to Tolworth Broadway. "However, this application is poor. We face a hotchpotch of eyesore tall towers, and hundreds of new flats without the facilities to support them."

The proposals include building four new mixed-use building next to the distinctive tower.

The tower currently houses the Broadway Bar, Garner’s funeral directors, Costa coffee shop and Boots. These could be knocked down to be replaced with largely residential buildings.
