Vampires seeking shade, Lord of the Rings and the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers all seem unlikely inspirations for the campaign against high rise buildings in Kingston town centre.

But one campaigner has decided to get creative when it comes to sticking the boot into developers, councillors and jargon-filled planning literature.

Surrey Comet:

In a series of cheeky mock-ups, the anonymous Kingston Residents’ Alliance (KRA) member has made fun of the company behind the old Post Office redevelopment St George – and even had a pot-shot at Kingston Council leader Kevin Davis.

One Lord of the Rings-themed poster includes Coun Davis as a wizard with the caption "Bored of the Things" and "Who now has the strength to stand against the union of the two towers?"

Surrey Comet:

Coun Davis became a target for opponents of the post office redevelopment after tweeting KRA members telling them: "Don’t upset the people in power".

After the Conservative leader publicly stated his opposition to the development, a new, Medieval-style picture popped up, dubbing the politician King Kaev the Great of Cyninges tun with the caption "It’s ok chaps, I was on your side all along...honest!"

Surrey Comet:

The man behind the images did not want to be named, but said: "I initially did them for a laugh. I was involved with Kingston Residents’ Alliance and they were talking about how we should have visuals to support our campaign.

"It is my sad attempt at satire. But people have said they like them and they are really funny.

"They channel people’s thoughts and that’s the point. I’m not doing them for recognition. They have a serious message and reflect what is going on in Kingston."

Surrey Comet:

The father-of-two from north Kingston works in audio production and takes inspiration from Private Eye.

Also an avid reader of the BBC website, The Guardian and Surrey Comet, the campaigner said: "The underlying message is what’s going on in Kingston. This whole regeneration thing is really worrying. It’s one thing to be proactive but it’s another thing to be steamrollering."

Having only joined KRA less than six months ago, the animation-loving resident who has lived in the borough for 17 years with little previous interaction with the running of the council, has said he would not be averse to making some more mock ups in his spare time.

His favourite film is Some Like it Hot, so watch out for a Marilyn Monroe inspired joke next time.
