So for The One Show this week, I was asked to travel to Barnstaple to interview four very special sisters who are now the world’s oldest siblings, with a combined age of 391.

Yes, you read that right. With ages of 93, 96 and twins of 101, they were a force to be reckoned with and it was a real pleasure to meet them.

I did not know quite what to expect, but they were all retelling their life experiences as if they had happened yesterday and they all had a fantastic sense of humour.

During the afternoon, over a cup of tea and slices of cake, one question I asked them was what they thought the secret to having a long and productive life was, and their answers varied.

Never want what others have. Be grateful with your lot. Treat others like you would want to be treated. Do not be afraid of hard work.

These were all were messages they admonished – phrases I have often heard at different stages of my life that really do have so much truth and resonance to them.

They made it seem quite simple. Do not get me wrong, you could argue they have been blessed genetically or even been plain lucky to have hung around so long but, nonetheless, whatever their mantra, it has worked for them.

Once back home, I was on it.

I have been eating my greens, started back on my multi-vitamins and cod liver oil tablets and even invested in a small bottle of Floradix, which my grandfather swore by, and he lived to the ripe old age of 88.

Michael thinks I have gone mad, but having spotted a grey hair this week, and with gravity now pulling everything in the opposite direction, action needs to be taken.

However, at the end of the day, time waits for no man (or woman), so there is no point worrying about when your time is up.

Instead, we should focus on how much time we have now.
