Shoppers at Surbiton Farmer's Market raised almost £1,500 for victims of the Nepal earthquake in just one morning.
Stunning strawberries: entries including Bosco's winner, top left
Saturday's market featured disabled athletics charity Weir Archer Academy, as well as Community Action Nepal, in recognition of the humanitarian crisis in the Himalayan country.
Richard Sealtiel, of Gordon Bennett, employs four Nepalese workers.
He said: "They are extremely warmed to see the market and the community being so generous of spirit and of course financially."
The market also hosted a strawberry-and-chocolate-based baking competition, judged by one Mary Berrylands, otherwise known as former Surrey Comet chief reporter Tim Harrison.
Mr Harrison got his chops around entries created by top professionals and child challengers including sponges, tarts, cupcakes and more.
The bake-off winners were:
- Professional: Jose Queirolo (Hotel Bosco) and Greg Cadoni (The French Tarte)
- Amateur: Stephanie Morgan and Carmen Palmer
- Children’s: Imogen Banks, 6, with Lily Hinton and Anna Banks, both 9, and Minna Ellis
