A Kingston day centre for over 50s celebrated its 10th anniversary this week, writes Priscila Barrera.

The Bradbury, in Grange Road, welcomed mayor of Kingston Ken Smith to a celebratory open day with staff, members and volunteers on Tuesday, April 28.

The centre, run by Staywell, formerly Age Concern Kingston, was opened in 2005 by former Good Life actor Richard Briers, and is one of two of the charity’s drop-in centres that offering social, keep-fit and learning activities for the over-50s.

Deputy chief executive Anne Bren said: “It was a great day, which brought lots of new visitors into the centre, who we hope will join us as Bradbury members or volunteers, and lovely comments from people.

It also brought home to the staff just how important the centre is to the people who use it. One lady told me she had been ‘re-inspired’ by The Bradbury.”

Staywell provides a range of services and projects, both building-based and in the community, to help Kingston’s older population live with diginity and independence.
