Tributes have been paid to a cricketer who collapsed and died on the field of play.

Asad Chaudary, 40, died on Saturday afternoon as team mates, paramedics and police officers fought to save him.

The Hook and Southborough Cricket Club player, a father to two children aged five and eight, had played 44 games for the club.

Club chairman Keith Milton said: “He was a very quietly spoken man, but very friendly and everyone liked him.

“We’re all in shock at what happened.

“He’d just finished bowling, and I went up to him, put my arm on his shoulder and told him to take a rest.

“I turned around again and somebody said: ‘Asad’s down’. “Despite the best efforts of fellow players, the London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police, he was unable to be revived.

“Asad joined our club in 2011, and scored a century on his debut for us.

“People are finding it hard to come to terms with.

“We’re going to have a small tribute to him on Saturday and wear black armbands.”
