A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of his business partner.

Chef Aziz Miah, 53, of Clayton Road in Chessington, is alleged to have stabbed Mohammed Rahman at the Red Rose of Chessington on Tuesday night.

He appeared late on Thursday afternoon at a delayed hearing at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court today and spoke only to confirm his identity, with the help of a Bengali interpreter.

Mr Miah, a father of four who has lived in the UK for 32 years, was remanded in custody and will next appear at Kingston Crown Court on Wednesday, February 4.

He is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

Police were called to the Hook Parade curry house just after 7pm on Tuesday.

Mr Rahman, 61 had sustained "extensive" and life-changing wounds to one arm, a spokeswoman said yesterday.

He remains in hospital.

A second man, 38, was arrested last night on suspicion of attempted murder and was bailed until late March.
