A "humiliating" Snapchat video was shown to a boy shortly before he allegedly stabbed Hampton teenager Jamil Palmer to death, a court heard.

A 16-year-old boy [defendant B], one of five accused of murder, told the Old Bailey how his 17-year-old co-defendant [defendant D] was shown the recording before an arranged fight in Crane Park with Mr Palmer on May 6.

He claimed the group were sitting on a bench in Feltham when they were joined by another boy, who played them the video of defendant D after he had fought with Mr Palmer, 18, earlier that day.

Def B said: "He showed us all a video on Snapchat and I saw [defendant D] lying on the floor with something behind his head, like a top or something.

"No one really said anything but it was more like it was quite deep.

"The video was, I wouldn’t say humiliating, but it was bad - it was humiliating for [defendant D]."

The defendant, 16, told the jury the group met Mr Palmer, a former Richmond College and Kingston College student, and his friends at Crane Park, near the Butts Farm Estate in Feltham.

Defendant B claimed Mr Palmer, of Belgrade Road, said the area was "bait" and led them deeper into the park.

Mr Palmer put his hand into his trousers and produced a knife, the defendant told the court.

He said: "He started smiling with it and, I don’t know who said it, but everyone was like 'no put the knives down'.

"He put it down on the ground and Jamil said ‘let’s get s*** cracking’.

"I didn’t see [defendant D] with a knife."

Mr Palmer threw the first punch and the pair were "grappling" for at least 20 seconds before backing away from each other, he told the court.

He said: "Jamil said ‘you’ve poked me’ - he meant [defendant D] had stabbed him.

"He said ‘it is a baby shank anyway’, meaning it is a little knife.

"I didn’t see any blood because he had a dark top on but when he lifted up his top I saw the blood coming out.

"I thought that, more than likely, [defendant D] stabbed him."

Five people are on trial for Mr Palmer’s murder, a 15-year-old (defendant A), two 16-year-olds (defendant B and C) and a 17-year-old (defendant D),  none of whom can be named for legal reasons, and 18-year-old Kishon Zelaya, from Reading.

They all deny murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

The trial continues.
