A cocaine dealer who deliberately ran down a man in the street with his car has been jailed for five years.

Umair Aziz, 22, admitted smashing his Volkswagen Polo into his 27-year-old victim, a man he had called over to him in a Kingston car park.

After Aziz warned him not to cause trouble, the victim walked away - only to be run down when he reached East Road.

He was thrown on to the car's bonnet - smashing the windscreen - and suffered a broken arm, head injuries and crush injuries to his chest.

Detective Constable Becky Springford, of Kingston CID, said: "Aziz has shown he is both violent and a drug dealer - the long term in prison is totally justified.

"This was a vicious and deliberate attack that left a young man in the street with serious injuries.

"It was only good fortune that the victim was not left permanently disabled, or even killed."

Aziz, of Hazel Close, Brentford, admitted causing grievous bodily harm and possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

Witnesses told police the assault, shortly before 9pm on Saturday, June 14 this year, was deliberate.

When officers reached the victim he was lapsing in and out of consciousness, a spokeswoman said.

He told police he had no idea what Aziz meant by his warning.

Aziz was arrested two days later after police found his car, which he had driven away "at speed" following the assault.

They also searched his home and found 18 grams of cocaine, worth more than £1,500 on the streets.

Aziz was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court last Friday.
