Kingston bobbies could be given £2,000 by councillors to keep their bicycles rust-free and roadworthy.

Police bid for funding for bike maintenance as part of Kingston Council's Your Money, You Decide scheme, which awards cash to groups helping others on the basis of residents' votes.

Scouts, youth crime campaigners and schools will also learn if they have secured funding from a £30,000 pot.

Nearly 300 people went to ballot sessions to cast their votes across Tolworth and Chessington.

Proposed awards include:

  • £1,000 for the Phoenix Club, giving older residents a place to socialise
  • £2,000 for father-figure charity Man and Boy, for adventure camps
  • £1,890 for the Chessington and District Residents' Association, for hanging baskets to spruce up North Parade and Hook Parade
  • £2,000 for 2nd Tolworth scouts, for double glazed windows

Councillors will vote on whether to allocate the funding at a meeting at the Hook Centre on Wednesday, October 22, at 7.30pm.
