A section of Kingston's one way system has been closed today following the discovery of a gas leak.
Southern Gas Networks is working to repair the leak beneath the carriageway in Wood Street and has closed one lane between Fife Road and Dolphin Street to carry out the works.
It is not yet known how long the lane closure will be in place, but SGN said it was using a 'Core & Vac' machine to reduce the duration of the roadworks.
Core and Vac technology involves drilling into the road and using a vacum to extract loose rubble, and replacing it after work is complete.
According to Transport for London, the technique "has the potential to significantly reduce congestion caused by roadworks".
