Kingston Council is considering introducing weekly rubbish collections in a renegotiated deal with contractors Veolia.
The news was announced by Councillor David Cunningham, lead member for environment, as he also revealed half of Kingston's landfill waste could actually be recycled.
Kingston's landfill waste is currently collected fortnightly, with recyclables picked up every week.
The news comes as the Conservative Party is rumoured to be considering a place in its 2015 election manifesto for a pledge of weekly bin collections.
Liberal Democrat deputy leader Stephen Brister dismissed the idea as a "gimmick and a headline".
Lucy Ford visited Chessington to ask residents if they thought weekly bin collections was a vote winner.
Ben Hibbert, 33, driving instructor, Chessington
"Yes probably, every two weeks is a bit too long.
"When I lived in a flat it was every week, now it’s just once a fortnight."
Ben Hibbert
Kerry Cossens, 35, full-time mother, Chessington
"I would consider it. I don’t really vote but I would consider it as I think that bins should be collected weekly."
Darryl Underwood, 64, bus driver, Chessington.
"Not really, I voted Ukip last year. They all make these promises, but they are never kept."
Kerry Cossens

Ann Tillott, 56, retail worker, Chessington
"No it wouldn’t. I get weekly bin collections as we live in a flat, and it wouldn't make any difference to me."
Ann Tillott
Karen Bussey, 45, a childminder from Chessington
"Yes definitely, we pay a lot of council tax. You even have to pay extra for garden waste collection here."
Karen Bussey
