The owner of Essence nightclub will try to persuade Kingston Council not to revoke its licence - by promising to sell it.

Lawyers representing owner Franco Lumba submitted suggestions to the council ahead of a licence review this morning.

The bar was temporarily closed after a 30-man brawl involving scaffolding used as weapons outside the venue before Christmas.

Mr Lumba's lawyers proposed selling on the club to Chessington businessman Richard Hunt, who they said would institute a full staff and management change.

The sale depends on councillors deciding not to revoke the licence, the letter from Lana Tricker of LT Law said.

The letter also proposes new licence conditions including stricter ID scanning, extra security along the river, and letting police veto any outside promotions.
