A cabin cruiser has sunk in Kingston riverside this afternoon.

The boat's bow was half below water on the south side of the Kingston bridge on the Hampton Court side.

Jo Adams, who had just got to a friend’s house by the river, noticed when she looked out of the window about 2.45pm.

She said: "I just saw it – I just noticed that the houseboat was sinking, it was a big boat. We didn’t see any people.

"I called the fire brigade. We have got two fire engines and a police car now."

Later in the afternoon, two people could be seen pumping water out of the stricken vessel. The fire engines and police car had gone.

It is understood the owner of the boat is a "residential itinerant" - someone who lives in the boat but does not have a private mooring.

A neighbour said the owner of the boat was away.
