Burglars stole two violins worth £16,000 along with other personal possessions as the owners slept upstairs.
Detectives have been mystified by the “highly unusual“ raid at a family home in Fetcham, as the bandits targeted specific items including a mobile phone sim card and a computer hard-drive containing about 250,000 photographs.
The victims, who had just returned from holiday, were left “deeply shaken and upset” following the burglary overnight on Thursday, August 19.
Surrey Police have appealed for anyone who sees the stolen Brian Cohen violins, with a dark blue case and two bows, to come forward.
Detective Dion O’Shea, of Surrey Police, said: “The items taken were extremely personal to the family and the incident has left them deeply shaken and upset.
“We have released photographs of the Brian Cohen violins in the hope someone will know where these instruments are now in order to reunite them with the rightful owner.”
The burglars also stole passports, a black wallet containing bank cards, a pink mobile phone and photographic equipment.
Anyone with information should contact DC O’Shea on 0845 125 2222 quoting ref MV/10/3607.
