A police officer patrolling on his push bike arrived at a crime scene in time to arrest a man on suspicion of criminal damage and theft.
Ashtead neighbourhood officer PC Jason Woods was patrolling the area when a report of a car being damaged was received.
Just after 1.45pm last Tuesday, July 20, a man threw a brick at the driver’s window of a car parked in Barnett Wood Lane. The brick scratched the window and the man fled the scene.
PC Woods arrived swiftly and spoke with a number of witnesses who provided a good description of the suspect. A man matching the suspect’s description was arrested in Kingston Road, Leatherhead.
A wallet containing £165 in cash had also been stolen from an insecure vehicle parked in Barnett Wood Lane.
PC Jason Woods said: “I am paying close attention to the Barnett Wood Lane area as we have seen an increase in the number of theft from motor vehicles there recently.”
• A 41-year-old man from Streatham has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
