People spotted a group of lights in the sky flying in formation above Epsom on Sunday evening.
The mysterious lights moving in an arrow shaped formation were seen at around 9pm and some were flashing and appearing to change colours.
One of the people who saw them was Darren Gibbons, 27, from Burgh Heath, who was about to go into the Odeon cinema in Upper High Street, Epsom, when he saw the lights.
He said: “They were glowing and some seemed to be changing colour. They were flying in formation.”
After some internet research he found that similar lights were seen in America at about the same time.
Other “UFO sightings” have been put down to Chinese lanterns.
He said: “I don’t see how it can have been lanterns - these lights were in a straight line,”
Rauni Laqman who lives in Ashley Road, Epsom, also saw the lights.
“I don’t know what they could have been. They weren’t aircraft or helicopters. I think we are owed an explanation.”
The government has a website where reports of UFOs are logged ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk which also includes reports of alien abductions.
Most UFOS have a rational explanation. The Virgin oval shaped airship which flew regularly over London advertising Ford Mondeos was responsible for several so called UFO sightings in the 1990s.
