A loss of power left a train stuck on the line, blocking other services for over three hours.
The 6.52am service from Dorking to London Victoria reported the problem, outside Ashtead station, at about 7.05am, leaving the line towards London blocked until engineers manage to remove the train just after 10am.
The reason for the loss of power is still under investigation.
A spokeswoman for Southern Trains said: “This morning, the 6.52am Southern service from Dorking to Victoria reported a loss of power outside Ashtead station at around 7.05am. We would like to apologies to our passengers for the disruption to services this morning and are working as quickly as possible to get services back to normal.”
South West Trains are accepting Southern tickets on services between Guildford and Clapham Junction and tickets will also be accepted on Transport for London buses between Epsom and London and on First Great Western services between Guildford and Dorking Deepdene station.
