A Brooklands student has planned to make competition judges fall in love with her sandwich creation in Paris on Valentine’s Day.
Emily Smith, 18, wowed judges in the UK heats with her peppered beef and gherkin creation.
She will compete against seven finalists from countries such as France, Japan and Malaysia in the international final of the Delifrance Sandwich World Cup.
The sandwich judged by culinary experts to be the most innovative, tasty and cost-effective will win its maker a 10-day internship at the prestigious Delifrance Ecole de Boulangerie in Paris and be crowned the world’s best sandwich maker.
Delifrance’s UK managing director Ian Dobbie said: "Huge congratulations to Emily. She’s done the UK proud in demonstrating what a wealth of talent can be found from one student alone.
"We’re really looking forward to seeing each finalist’s creation at the international final on Valentine’s Day.
"These are incredibly exciting times for the sandwich industry and despite who is crowned the international winner and best sandwich maker in the world, Emily deserves great recognition as one of the next generation of passionate and committed culinary experts."
