A teenager was assaulted in a dark alleyway after leaving work.
The 19-year-old was down an alley in Molesey Road, Hersham, when four men blocked his path and began punching him in the head and body.
They continued to attack him, even when he fell to the floor, but eventually left him and walked away.
The incident took place at some point between midnight and 1.30am on Monday, February 6.
The victim, from Hersham, only sustained minor injuries, but as a result of a medical condition will require further hospital tests.
All of the attackers were white, in their late teens or early 20s, all of medium build and about 5ft 10in.
They were all wearing hooded tops and dark trousers.
Detective Inspector Stewart Leahy said: “This was a nasty and completely unprovoked assault on a young man simply trying to get home.
“Despite the sustained nature of the attack the victim has fortunately only suffered minor injuries, but this was clearly a very distressing incident for him to be put through.
“While there is no suggestion that the victim was targeted because of his medical condition we have not ruled out the possibility that the suspects may be local to the Hersham area.”
Witnesses should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference EL/12/827, or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
