An investigation is under way this morning after a cement mixer dramatically plummeted from a bridge on to a train near Oxshott station.

Five people are believed to have been injured in the incident, two seriously - one believed to be the driver of the truck - after the collision, just after 3pm yesterday.

A Network Rail spokesman confirmed the train involved was the 3.05pm service from Guildford to London Waterloo.

Uninjured passengers were taken home by coach last night and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch will investigate the incident.

A South West Trains spokesman said: "Safety is our absolute priority and we will do everything in our power to assist the investigation into the incident."
