A website providing information on events and volunteering opportunities during the London 2012 Olympics has been launched by Surrey County Council (SCC).

Surrey2012.info will encourage businesses to “Be Part Of It”, by discovering the 85 winning Olympic contracts won by the county so far, and offering advice on making the most of the increased level of tourism and the estimated £1bn boost to the economy before, during and after the games.

Denise Saliagopoulos, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for community services, tourism and the 2012 games, said: “There are huge opportunities on offer from the Olympic and Paralympic Games and surrey2012.info will help us make sure that people make the most of them.

“I would urge everyone to take a look for themselves and see how they can get involved.”

SCC hopes to attract visitors to stay in the area, by providing information about attractions, accommodation and transport links.
