Weybridge waterway finished just in time for festival fun

Weybridge residents are set to benefit from a £500,000 Environment Agency (EA) upgrade to the town’s riverside footpath, finished just in time for the annual Thames-side Festival on Saturday, September 4.

The 120m of pathway between Weybridge Ladies Amateur Rowing Club and Weybridge Sailing Club now provides mooring points for boats and better disabled access, after work was completed on Friday, August 27.

Paul Power, EA regional waterways engineer, said: “This project is a great example of how we can improve, and make safer, our facilities for boaters and also improve disabled access at the same time.

“We want the river to be accessible for all, and hopefully this is just another step towards making sure everyone can enjoy boating on the Thames.”

The Thames-side Festival, organised by the Weybridge Society, has a wide range of activities taking place such as free boat trips, market stalls and dancing.

Money from the event will be donated to local charities, including the Sam Beare Hospice.
