Records were smashed at a popular Walton road race despite sweltering temperatures last weekend.

The Elmbridge Road Runners’ Julie Button memorial race was won in record time by top steeplechase runner Bruce Raeside, who romped home in a course record of 30 minutes, 20 seconds on Sunday, July 25.

The 10km race, which goes from Walton to Hampton Court and back, attracted a 600-strong field which included former 5,000m World Champion Sonia O’Sullivan.

The first Elmbridge resident home was Sean Renfer of Elmbridge Road Runners, who finished sixth and achieved a personal best time of 33 minutes and 27 minutes.

Elmbridge Road Runners meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for a run and are hoping to take on new members, who can find out more by visiting elmbridgeroadrunners.co.uk.
