A group of eight Egyptian goslings was rescued from the cold and reunited with their parents after being found alone by Molesey lock.
Roz Shergold was walking back to her boat late at night, and saw the group huddled together by the weir.
She said: "Suleman the island owner was also there and after looking for the parents without success and seeing that the chicks were shivering and wet we decided to rescue them."
Ms Shergold's neighbours Kami and Aidan brought a net and torches, and the group caught them "quite easily".
They were kept in a shed overnight with water and blankets, and the next morning were placed in a chicken run.
After a few hours, Ms Shergold got a call from the lock keep telling her he had seen the parents.
She said: "We think the parents heard the babies calling, so we released them into the river and they all swam off together. It was a great feeling to be able to help them and such a lovely sight seeing them swim off as a family."
