Construction of a new Lidl store will begin later this month in Hersham.

The supermarket will be built in the former Riverdene Industrial Estate, with the work by construction firm Crest Nicholson expected to take 18 months.

It is anticipated the store will bring up to 40 jobs when it opens in early 2019.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Chris Young-Wootton, said: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start the build.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we enter this next phase of the development.”

Lidl was crowned ‘Best Supermarket 2016’ by readers of Good Housekeeping, and its growth plan involves building 50 to 60 stores a year.
