Card 'trapper' devices have been found at ATM machines in Esher High Street, just two months after they were discovered at a cashpoint in East Molesey.

From September: Tesco shoppers warned to be vigilant after reports of 'card-trapper' scam at cashpoint in Molesey

Elmbridge Police have warned shoppers to be vigilant before using any machines after a "series and increase" in the number of devices found across Elmbridge.

Officers warned some have been fitted with recording devices, and are designed to prevent the release of the bank card or the request cash after the transaction has been completed.

PC Chris Smith said: "We continue to urge all residents to check ATMs for any suspicious fixtures or loose fittings, prior to use.

"We strongly advise that you do not allow anyone to see you enter your PIN - even if a 'friendly' member of the public offers to 'assist' you, should you fall victim to this scam.

"Some cash machines that have the new security features are having coins jammed into their card reader, forcing members of the public to go the next nearest cash point with less security features added."

He added that should you fall victim to a scam, ring Surrey Police on 101 and call your bank to cancel your cards immediately.
