Elmbridge residents can tell their councillors how they feel about expansion at Heathrow or Gatwick in a new survey.

A ‘Task and Finish’ group was set up by the council in January of this year to consider the impact on Elmbridge of Heathrow’s potential expansion, and looks to do an in-depth review of any service, policy or issue that affects the borough.

The group says that if a new runway were to be built at Heathrow it would provide “significant economic and service benefits for Elmbridge residents” but that these need to be weighed against environmental impacts and assurances of flight paths.

Christine Elmer, who is chairing the group, said: “We are very aware that the expansion of Heathrow is an emotive topic for the residents and businesses of Elmbridge and as a Group we are eager to consider in depth all aspects of this debate.

“As such we are analysing issues such as noise, air pollution, transport infrastructure and safety with experts in order to determine the implications for Elmbridge.”

Councillors are now encouraging residents to fill in the survey on the council’s website. It will close at midnight on September 30.

Once the results of the survey are in, the group is expected to deliver its report by the Autumn.
