It wasn’t that long ago when everyone was having a good old snigger at our story about 69 Cock Lane.

Sadly, this titter-worthy address in Fetcham hasn’t made it on to a list of the rudest place names in the UK – nor has anywhere else in south London and Surrey.

A poll of 2,000 people has put the beautifully named village of Bell End in Worcestershire in the number one spot.

It beat off stiff competition from Brown Willy (a hill in Cornwall) to take the honour.

In a mature, grown-up way, what we especially love about Bell End is that it’s located near to another place called Lickey End.

See below for the top 10 rudest/funniest place names compiled after the poll by insurance provider Swiftcover.

Surrey Comet: 21 of the funniest place names in Dorset and the New Forest

It’s a shame nowhere in our area was deemed hilarious enough to make the list – but when you consider that Fanny Hands Lane in Lincolnshire, Sandy Balls in the New Forest, Titty Hill in Sussex and Shitterton in Dorset didn’t make it on there either, you can tell the quality is high.

Here's the top 10 in full:

  1. Bell End, Worcestershire
  2. Brown Willy, Cornwall
  3. Boggy Bottom, Hertfordshire
  4. Twatt, Orkney
  5. Nob End, Lancashire
  6. Fanny Barks, Durham
  7. Scratchy Bottom, Dorset
  8. Minge Lane, Worcestershire
  9. Dicks Mount, Suffolk
  10. Crotch Crescent, Oxford
