A driver who was clocked driving at 83 mph in a 50 mph limit in Esher has been slapped with a fine and court costs of more than £3,500.

Surrey Road Cops tweeted a picture of the silver Volkswagen Golf speeding along the carriageway on March 19.

The road police unit account also said the driver “tried to argue accuracy of the laser speed detection device” and so used road safety support to provide evidence in court.

The driver, who plead not guilty at court, was found guilty and disqualified for 35 days, fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,600, plus a victim surcharge of £100.
