A burst water main in Weybridge has partially flooded areas of Brooklands, Addlestone and Byfleet and left homes and schools without water.

Affinity Water confirmed a burst water main in Sopwith Drive in Weybridge at 9.30am and advised residents to store drinking water ahead of mains repairs today.

The mains are near The Paddock Retail Park which includes Argos, Currys and PC World.

Homes in Viscount Gardens and Barnato Close in Byfleet have been left without water as technicians repair the damaged section of the main.

Fulbrook School in Byfleet said students were sent home at 11am as there was no water supply to the school.

A statement from Affinity Water said: “Due to the location of the pipework pinpointing the damaged section of main that needs replacing has proven difficult and we anticipate that quite a large area of pipework will need to be cut out and replaced.”

The statement added that workers are looking to install additional hydrants to restore water to those who have no supply, but warned that if works go ahead, it would take “quite some time to complete”.

Tanya Jones, manager at Cherrylands Nursery in Sopwith Drive, said there was “a lot of water” earlier but most had now gone.

She said: “We lost our water but we have managed to keep our nursery open. We’ve got bottles of water.

“We are here for working parents so do everything within our power to remain open at all times by putting different measures into place.”

Rachel Tammer, who works in Mothercare in The Paddock Retail Park, said their water supply was not affected.

She said: “Other than having to swim to work we're ok. This morning it was awful.

“I'm gearing up to walk to work and saw the water and thought 'Oh'. I could see it rising and rising at 9.30am. I went home and got my car.

“I stood up on the curb and it kept coming over.”
