Police have released CCTV images of a man who they want to speak to after a 22-week old puppy was stolen from a Claygate home.

Maximus, a brown cocker spaniel puppy, was taken by thieves who targeted his home in Red Lane just after lunchtime on December 19.

The burglars also took off with two iPads and a selection of costume jewellery from the house after smashing the kitchen window to get in.

Maximus was found and back home in time for Christmas after he was spotted wandering alone in Aldershot Road in Guildford days later.

He was handed in to Treetop Kennels who contacted police after recognising him from an appeal.

Two men and a woman in their 20s have been arrested and released on bail until June 10.

Police are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the man in the CCTV images.

DC Dave Atkinson said: “Thankfully the puppy was located and returned to its family just in time for Christmas but we remain determined to bring those responsible for this heartless crime to justice.

“I believe the man in this CCTV image could have information vital to our investigation. If this is you, or you know who this man is please get in touch.”

Speaking after he was found, Maximus’ owner Sandra Dowling said: "Words cannot describe the feeling of seeing, then holding and then hugging Maximus when we were reunited with him at Treetops Kennels.

“We are all over the moon now he is home, safe and asleep. He has eaten and has had lots of hugs.

"We are indebted to Surrey Police, who are just brilliant, effective and thorough investigators.”
