Born in Walton on October 1, 1935, as Julia Elizabeth Wells, the actress won an Academy award for her role in Mary Poppins in 1964. She also famously starred in the 1965 musical film The Sound of Music as Maria Von Trapp, winning the hearts of many fans across the nation.

Andrews remarked in her 2009 autobiography Home how the river Thames reminded her of her birthplace, being the boundary between her home and being on tour with her parents.

She married her first husband Tony Walton on May 10, 1959 in Weybridge, later having daughter Emma in 1962.

Andrews went on to star in films Thoroughly Modern Millie, Star! and Darling Lili, as well as modern children's films Despicable Me, The Princess Diaries and the Shrek series.
