A father is set to cycle 100 miles to raise money for charity after his daughter was diagnosed with bowl cancer.

Eryl Jones, 65, from Weybridge, will take on the Olympic road race route during this year’s Ride London event on August 2.

He chose to support Beating Bowl Cancer after his 33-year-old daughter was diagnosed with the disease in 2013.

The retired computer sales executive said: “My daughter was young, fit and healthy. This awful disease hit her totally out of the blue and she went through a very tough time before thankfully pulling through. So I’d like to help others with the disease if I can.

“Beating Bowel Cancer does amazing work raising awareness of the disease and supports all those affected by bowel cancer, whether they are patients, survivors or their families. I really want to do my bit to help them to support others.”

Mr Dawson will join a team of 190 cyclists including rugby star team captain Matt Dawson in the journey through Surrey’s Box Hill junction up to The Mall in central London.

They are hoping to raise £250,000 for their cause.
