The prospect of murder was in the air in Bushy Park on Sunday as hundreds of onlookers including parents and children steeled themselves for the foul deed.

Death is not the usual topic of conversation during the annual Chestnut Parade - where vintage and antique cars drive around the Diana Fountain.

But a bird of prey display brought the potential crime to light as crows fluttered into the branches of trees preparing to swoop and attack a barn owl or a kestrel, performing for the crowds.

Handlers told the crowd they may have to end the display as crows were circling with the power to kill. But a quick reveal of Fergie the hawk sent them flapping away.

This video shows the amazing sight of a falcon swooping on its handler, trying to nab food being swung on the end of a string.

Meanwhile, this kestrel (below) appeared uninterested in flapping around, for a short while leaving the arena and holing up in the branches of this tree.

The annual event also saw a traditional fairground carousel, a parade, a brass band and an exhibition of classic cars and motorcycles.

Visit Richmond were showing off the town to potential visitors.  The role of General Eisenhower's troops during World War II inside Bushy Park was part of an exhibition.
