A 16-year-old spent her Easter holiday on a sight saving mission to India.
Shreya Gupta, a pupil at ACS Cobham International School, grew up in Delhi and joined the project, part of an internship sponsored by ACS International Schools Foundation and sight-saving charity Orbis, to witness the impact of the work done by the charity.
Visiting a country where many millions are blind, Shreya said: "Interacting with the patients at the various projects was an enriching experience. Knowing the local dialect enabled me to talk to many different people and they were all incredibly positive, regardless of the problem of situation."
The students were awarded places on the trip following a written application and an interview with six panel members.
Florence Branchu, Orbis corporate partnerships manager, said: "Through this annual internship we are able to educate the lucky students and their peers about the issue of preventable blindness in developing countries."
Shreya wrote about her time in Delhi at orbis.org/news/uk/blog.
