After five years of campaigning, following an accident involving an elderly pedestrian, speed limits have come down in Stoke Road.
The road through Stoke D'abernon and Cobham was one of the first in the county to benefit from the new Surrey County Council policy on setting local speed limits.
The limit was reduced last week from 40mph to 30mph following the campaign.
Cobham County Councillor Mary Lewis, Stoke Road Speed Group and the chairman of Surrey County Council local committee for Elmbridge, Margaret Hicks, pressed for the change when the new policy came in last July.
Coun Lewis said: "It has been noticeable that drivers are travelling more slowly along the road already this week. There have been some comments on the new signage, but this is determined by the Highway Code. It is important that local people lead the way and drive under 30mph, this slowing the road down for all users."
