A power cut in Weybridge left people unable to pay for shopping and unable to make toast this morning.

It was reported to be due to a blown cable, although work was still being done to find the exact problem after the power outage at about 10.30am.

UK Power Networks was reassuring people on Twitter they were working to get everyone back online as soon as possible.

Anthony Oxborough said: "Hurry up and get the power back on @UKPowerNetworks i want my toast #powercut"

UK Power Networks replied: "Sorry Anthony, nobody likes being kept waiting for any breakfast item!"

Adding: "Estimated time of toast, 12.35."

Homes and businesses were beginning to get back online this lunchtime, but it was thought they would not be reconnected until about 1pm.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: “UK Power Networks engineers are working to restore electricity supplies to 331 customers in the Kaye Don Way area of Brooklands, Weybridge.

“A fault on an underground cable affected 603 customers at 10.27am but engineers rerouted supplies to 272 customers by 11.19am and work is progressing to connect the remaining supplies.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing and our engineers are working at the scene to return all supplies to normal as quickly as possible.”
