Two traffic wardens have been reported to the police for allegedly trying to run over a man enquiring as to why they parked on double yellow lines.

When Dan Balding, 28, from Queens Road, Weybridge, saw the two wardens getting into an unmarked car parked on double yellow lines he wanted to speak to them to ask why they were there.

He said: “They refused to roll down the window. So I tried to take a picture of the number plate. At this point they decided to try and run me over.”

Mr Balding was with his mother in South Road, Weybridge, as they had just finished doing some shopping and were about to head home.

He was not hurt when the car moved towards him but complained to Elmbridge Council about the actions of the traffic wardens, and was unhappy with the reply he got.

He said: “They are being backed up by the council.”

When asked for a response to Mr Balding’s claims, a council spokesman said: “This matter has been referred to the police, as such the council does not comment on police matters, however the council will cooperate fully with any investigation.”

Mr Balding reported it to the police, and an investigation is taking place.

A spokesman from Surrey Police said: “Surrey Police is investigating after an allegation that a vehicle was driven at a pedestrian in South Road, Weybridge, at 7.50pm on Wednesday, December 3.

"The pedestrian was uninjured and enquiries are ongoing."
