A fire engine hit a pedestrian in Esher town centre at the weekend.

Police described it as "a serious collision" after "a fire engine answering an emergency call was in collision with a pedestrian".

The crash happened just before 7pm in Portsmouth Road on Saturday, December 6, closing the road to traffic while police investigated. It re-opened at about 10.30pm.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance was called, and the crew accompanied the man in his 50s to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

An ambulance spokesman said: "We sent three cars and one ambulance to the scene, along with the air ambulance, and the man was assessed and treated for injuries including a head injury before being taken by road to St George's Hospital."
