A man walking with a horse and rider across a bridal way was hospitalised after being hit by a car on Saturday.
The man in his 50s was struck by a black Audi A3 at about 4.30pm on the A244 Copsem Lane, near the junction with the A3.
He was taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting, with serious head, leg and internal injuries.
The rider and horse were not hurt.
The road was closed for a number of hours while police investigated, re-opening at about 10.30pm.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses who saw the crash or events leading up to it.
