A cyclist was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car.

The man in his 50s was taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting, after the crash on the evening of Friday, November 14.

The crash between the cyclist and the silver Ford Fiesta happened just after 6pm in Ashley Park Road, Walton.

Sergeant Phil Dix said: "Officers would like to speak to another cyclist who stopped to assist at the scene but left prior to police arrival."

Road closures were in place at Ashley Road and Silverdale Avenue.

A police spokesman said: "The man is in a stable condition and remains in hospital [on Monday] receiving treatment for injuries to his head which are not as serious as first believed."

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a man aged approximately in his 50s who was unconscious as a result of a collision involving a push bike and a car.

The man was taken to St George's Hospital having suffered injuries including a serious head injury."
