Bravery and courage was recognised as officers and members of the public received awards for selfless acts and hard work.

Surrey Police's Divisional Commendation Ceremony was held at the refectory in Guildford Cathedral.

Among the award recipients was Police Constable Tommy Pearson, who, on March 29 this year, was sent to the Hersham area after a woman had put suicidal messages on Facebook.

There were concerns the woman might attempt to take her own life by jumping into the River Thames.

PC Pearson found the lady, who had jumped into the river, and climbed down the side of the riverbank, grabbed her and pulled her out of danger.

He wrapped his coat around her to keep her warm until the ambulance arrived.

The attending paramedic said PC Pearson's quick actions saved the woman's life.

Two members of the public were also awarded for brave action following an attempted betting shop robbery in West Molesey on April 1.

The offender had come into the shop and pointed a firearm at customers, instructing everyone to get on the floor, before demanding cash from the counter.

As the offender fled he was tackled in the street by members of the public.

Daniel Cooper was driving by the shop when he saw the scramble, and stopped his car to join in and help.

Luke Riccoboni, a road crew member working nearby, also helped pin the offender down.

A bag containing a large amount of money, and what turned out to be a blank firing pistol was taken.

Both Mr Cooper and Mr Riccoboni were awarded for their courageous efforts.
